Alva office to participate in Great American Smokeout

Major & Woods Counties smokers trying to quit during Thursday’s Great American Smokeout and Saturday’s Turkey Trot will have more free resources available to help them quit for life, according to information from Yolanda Creswell of the Alva office of Major & Woods County Tobacco Prevention Coalition.
The Oklahoma Tobacco Helpline is now offering free services by either going online at OKHelpline.com or by calling 1- 800-QUIT-NOW (1-800-784-7669).
“Join the Turkey Trot at 8 a.m. Saturday at Alva’s downtown square,” Creswell invited. “Break free from Tobacco and Quit Smoking all together.” Her office is located at Northwest Family Services at 620 Flynn, 327-2900.
“Every day, more Oklahomans die because of smoking-caused diseases, including heart disease and stroke,” said Creswell. “The health of every resident in Major & Woods Counties is important and that’s why we are working with citizens, schools, businesses and our elected officials to spread information and help lessen the burden of tobacco on our communities.”
The addition of the new online service, called Web Coach, offers internet access to highly trained Quit Coaches by live chat and e-mail. Those using the service will also gain membership to a private, online community where they can complete activities, watch videos, and join in discussions with others in the program.
Interactive trackers on the website measure the money saved and progress made during the quitting process. Web Coach can be used alone or in with phone support and both services are free to Oklahoma residents.
The Oklahoma Tobacco Helpline also offers a free two-week starter kit of nicotine replacement products. In addition to patches or gum, nicotine lozenges are a new option for most registered participants.

You will never be able to rent again from anyone who runs a credit check which is everybody who has a decent place to live.
